7Aum Arivu Vs RA.ONE vs Velayutham; Who is the Winner?

All theaters in Kochi witnessed a massive rush on Wednesday, as the much-hyped Shah Rukh Khan, Suriya and Vijay films finally hit screens. At the end of the day, certain trends are emerging. It appears that the response to 'RA. One' and '7 Aum Arivu' are quite mixed at this point. The reviews too have been lukewarm.
Apart from the two multiplexes, the highly anticipated movies were released in more than two theatres in the city. '7 Aum Arivu' was released in Shenoys, Little Shenoys and Padma theatres.
Meanwhile 'RA.One' was screened at Sreedhar, Savitha and Sangeetha. 'Velayudham' was premiered at two huge capacity theatres Sarita and Kavitha. 'RA.One', a do-or-die deal for Shah Rukh, given that over 175 crores have been invested in it, does not seem to have clicked in a big way. The film had a very good opening, but many feel that the story is a disappointment, while the technical parts stand out.

"RA.One is technically perfect but after the first half, it feels like watching a video game", says Rajesh S, who is working in an MNC. There is no twist in the story since the central theme comes before intermission. The response was somewhat similar for '7Aum Arivu' as well since the film does not appear to have met the high expectation.
"The story line is novel and different but it is not as good as we thought it would be. We expected more from the Suriya- A R Muragadoss team. I will say the film is definitely above average but a certain spark is missing in the film," says Nujum Noohu, an engineering student.
Even after spending Rs 84 crore, the graphics lack in quality which can be a setback for the whole movie, adds Nujum. But Noel K J of Maharaja's does not have the same opinion about '7 Aum Arivu'.
"Suriya's movie is a complete package with action, comedy, drama, romance and songs. Not even for a minute does the audience get bored", he says.
The action sequences have a Hollywood touch. The 'Ghajani' director has done justice to '7 Aum Arivu', he adds. Vijay's 'Velayudham', which had less hype compared to the other two, appears to have satisfied his fans adequately. The film, a complete Vijay show throughout, with rollicking comedy scenes and mind-blowing action sequences, seems to have worked with the audience.
"Ilaya Dalapati rules always. Vijay played a romantic hero in 'Kavalan', and now he is back in form doing what he does best, being the real mass hero. The introduction song was a visual treat", says Prashanth S, a diehard fan of Vijay.
As of now, it looks like the going could be slightly tough for SRK and Suriya, but given enough time, they might just continue to rake in some more moolah.

'At first meeting I was NOT happy with Vijay' - Gautham Menon

We all know that Gautham Menon doesn’t hear to the opinions of any actors. Be it Kamal Haasan or the young league of actors like Jiiva and Silambarasan, he ritually sticks to his own ideas and doesn’t give ears to his actors, who insist to make some changes in the script.

Shedding lights on his upcoming film ‘Yohan: Adhyayam Ondru’ starring Vijay in lead role, the director says, “So simple! My first meet with Vijay didn't work out so well, during the next two visits the was a difference in our opinions. On our last visit both of us were eager to do a film with together. Yohan will be an International Tamil film. Vijay will play and international agent in this movie. This is the first time both of us are doing a film in this genre. After going for an foreign assignment, the two months experiences of Yohan is the first part. After this, for each two year period, I would like to take the subsequent parts aka 'Adhyayam's' !

Who knows.. This might even end up as a series. The action scenes will perfectly suit Vijay. A.R. Rahman was ready to be the M.D. once I told him the story.

'Yohan' will stun you all!”

Velayutham entertains more than 7aum Arivu

In spite of other big releases, Velayudham has taken a front seat winning the Diwali race and producer Aascar Ravichandran managed to get bigger and more screens across Tamil Nadu and other areas for his Diwali release ‘Velayutham’. Released on October 25, the film has lived up to the expectations of not just Vijay fans, but has attracted the family audiences.

The audiences have acclaimed the film as the best entertainer while ‘7 Aum Arivu’ has got mixed reviews. The film ‘7 Aum Arivu’ didn’t manage to gain the interests of all group of audiences for its flimsy script and sluggish moments in screenplay. The film has been ennobled as the best entertainment for its mixture of fun, frolic, action, sentiments, etc…

With a longer weekend still going on, the theatre owners and exhibitors have demanded for additional prints of the film. Across the states of Kerala and Karnataka, the fans circle for Vijay has increased than the usual limits. The repeat audiences in Kerala are rushing into the theatres to watch it again and again.

But Velayudham has won the interests of critics and audiences across all centres as well. Director Raja and Vijay have thanked all the media channels and audiences for making the film more successful.

EXCLUSIVE: Velayudham Defeats 7aum Arivu.!!

Kollywood saw a massive clash between two big movies that were released during Diwali. One was the much-hyped AR Murugadoss’s 7aam Arivu and the other, Jeyam Raja’s Velayudham.
With two popular heroes of Kollywood — Suriya and Vijay — battling it out on this festive occasion, it was rather surprising to learn who actually won the hearts of the masses this time.

7aam Arivu, produced by Udayanidhi Stalin’s Red Giant Films, saw massive publicity that ran for nearly a month before its release. Expectations too were soaring high for this film as the director who gave a runaway hit like Ghajini (both in Hindi and Tamil) was expected to deliver triple the success for this one.

Adding to the hype was Suriya’s role as Bodhidharma (a Buddhist monk) and Shruti Haasan debut in Tamil cinema.

On the other hand, Vijay’s Velayudham was promoted at a mediocre scale in and around Tamil Nadu. With Vijay playing the role of a super-hero for the first time in his career, this one too created a lot of buzz before its release.

However, post the release, Velayudham’s stupendous victory has come as a rather surprising one. With critics and audiences voting for Vijay’s super-hero flick over Suriya’s 7aam Arivu, the results have proved to be a shocker.

What really turned the tables? Says a source, “Before the release of these two movies, it seemed clear that 7aam Arivu would win over Velayudham. The film’s massive promotional activities, claiming it as ‘something unseen’, proved to be a wrong tactic, once the film was released. With a lot of commercial elements in the film and scripting errors, people were let down by the Suriya-Murugadoss’s combination.”

As a matter of fact, Velayudham which was released in comparatively lesser number of theatres across the country, has raked in more than 7aam Arivu in the first week of its theatrical release. “Velayudham was promoted as an out-and-out commercial entertainer and did surprise the audiences when it was released. Though it had lesser publicity compared to the former, it has proven to be the ultimate winner. And while both the movies enjoyed a massive opening, the rather critical reviews let 7aam Arivu down,” adds the source. For films that rely only on promotional activities, the clear win of Velayudham proves to be a resounding lesson.

Velayutham success Party @ Vijay's House.!

7am Arivu to be remade in Hindi

7am Arivu is the movie directed by the ace director AR Murugadoss, produced byUdhayanidhi Stalin under the banner of Red Giant Movies.

Surya- Shruti Haasan starrer 7am Arivuis to be remade in Hindi with Amir Khan- Shruti Haasan. Yes Shruti is pairing Amir Khan in her next. Yet the official announcements are not released.

Sources say that, Whatever it may be Amir Khan is also in the plan to remake 7am Arivu.

Vijay - Shankar's Nanban songs from December

Shankar's forthcoming multi-starrer featuring Vijay, Jiiva, Srikanth and Ileana will see an audio release this December and will have five songs like its original, '3 Idiots'. The music for 'Nanban' has been composed by Harris Jayaraj who is currently busy with his music tour, On The Edge.
The shooting has been wrapped as earlier reported and currently the dubbing work for the major portions has been completed as well.

The posters of 'Nanban' all confirm that the movie will see a Pongal 2012 release and the creative designs are unique by themselves, apt with the film's plot as the trio will be seen as college students and Sathyaraj as a taskmaster for a college head. '3 Idiots' by itself has been inspired from Chetan Bhagat's novel 'Five Point Someone'.

Vijay appears as Rajini & Kamal

There is a scene in 'Nanban', the Shankar-directed Tamil remake of Bollywood blockbuster '3 Idiots', which would make the lovers of Tamil cinema to jump with joy. And we have interesting details about it.
"In a song sequence, Vijay would appear in the get-ups made by top stars of Kollywood, and this includes Superstar Rajinikanth and Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan. This is a joint effort by Shankar and vijay to pay tributes to the veterans," say sources in the know.
"Vijay will appear in the 'Enthiran' robot get-up of Rajini and 'Indian' looks of Kamal. This will be the highlight of the song, in which the Ilayathalapathy will be seen in other interesting get-ups too," the sources further say.
Remember Shankar, who directed 'Sivaji The Boss' with Rajinikanth, made the Superstar imitate MGR, Sivaji Ganesan and Kamal Haasan in the lead scene to the 'Adhiradikaran...' song. It looks like he is now planning something similar with Vijay.

Vijay vs Danush again for 2012 Pongal

This isn’t something new, but a process over the years. Perhaps, it’s a mere coincidence as the films of Vijay and Dhanush have clashed several times in the box office, especially for the festive occasion of Pongal.
Three years back, it was Villu Vs Padikadhavan that was released on January 14. However both the films received lukewarm response disappointing the fans.

This year 2011, it was Aadukalam and Kaavalan that won critical acclaims and yielded best results for producers as well.

The forthcoming Pongal is not gonna be an exception as the actors will continue to clash with their films. If what we heard from the trade circles is believed to be true then Dhanush’s upcoming movie ‘3’ directed by his wife Aishwarya will hit screens on January 14, 2012. Shankar’s ‘Nanban’ starring Vijay, Jeeva and Srikanth is already confirmed for the same occasion as the paper ads have already confirmed it as ‘Pongal is Well’.

Ilayathalapathy Vijay to host ‘Koteeswaran’

Vijay is high on his celebrations as his Diwali release ‘Velayutham’ has taken a great leap spinning profits in box office.
With the actor making a promising comeback, it’s a big celebration for his fans as well and it’s not gonna end as his projects lined up for 2012-13 is yet more exciting. Shankar’s ‘Nanban’, Gautham Menon’s ‘Yohan: Adhyayam Ondru’ and A R Murugadoss’ untitled film. What else does a fan of Ilayathalapathy need more than these reasons to rejoice?

Don’t give a ‘Dot’ to your excitements for a special buzz has created more sensation in the circles now. Yup! It’s heard that Vijay has been approached to host the show ‘Koteeswaran’, which is an adaptation of famous TV show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepathi’. More seasons have occurred and it’s a still big sensation in Indian small screen. While Amitabh Bachchan is the prominent host in most of the seasons, Shah Rukh Khan stepped into his shoes for a particular season. A topmost satellite Tamil channel had replicated the pattern for a show titled ‘Koteeswaran’ hosted by Sarath Kumar, which didn’t yield better results.

It is heard that Vijay has been paid a whooping amount and the preproduction works are going. Well, nothing is official until the announcements are heard from the horses’ mouth.

The latest talk joining the bandwagon is that Ajith might do the remake of Telugu film Dhookudu, produced by AM Ratnam. Dhookudu features Tollywood Prince Mahesh Babu and Samanthain the lead roles. The first screening of the film recently took place in Chennai and Ajith made his presence for the screening. Thala was thoroughly impressed with the script and immediately decided to do the film. The film has a racy script blend well with plentiful dosage of comedy and romance.

Dhookudu is one of the most-awaited and expected biggies of Tollywood which is going to hit the screens this weekend.

All credit to Velayudham Vijay: Raja

Director Raja is over the moon. HisVelayudham starring Vijay has opened big. He is thrilled and elated.

He says, ' it is always a thrill to work with such a mass hero as the reach to the audience is spectacular. Velayudham has received grand opening and I am getting good response from Vijay's fans'.

He added, 'in Kerala too, Velayudham has emerged a huge hit at the box office. And there demands for more number of prints'.

'Doing a commercial film is no easy task. It has to have all mass elements at right mix.Velayudham is perfect entertainer and Vijay hogged all limelight and made my job easier'.

Now thanks to him I have joined the big league for directors, he added

Suriya - Karthi to act together for Hari's next

Super Hit film Director Hari’s latest release “Venghai” featuring Dhanush and Tamannah is running with good response. Following that, Hari is involved in the works of his next film. As said earlier, he is readying a story for Surya. This is a script about 2 Brothers. He has commenced the discussion works of this film in Kodaikanal, with his Assistant Directors. This film is based on story about 2 Brothers for the whole length of the film. So, there are speculations that Karthi would be roped in with Surya for this film. Even before the Script is finalized, talks of Surya-Karthi being jointly featured in a single film has commenced.

Vijay is Kollywood James Bond - Gautham Menon

Gautham Menon is doing four projects at a time - 'Neethane En Ponvasantham', which he is simultaneously making in three languages (Tamil, Telugu and Hindi), and the Hindi remake of 'Vinnaithandi Varuvaya', titled 'Ek Dhivana Dha'.

After completing these films, he will move on to 'Yohan Adhyayam Ondru', his first venture with Vijay. "Some rumour mills have it that Gautham Menon is toying with the idea of coming out with a movie every two years in this series, like Yohan Adhyayam Irandu and Yohan Adhyayam Moondru but the director has remained tight-lipped about these.

"Vijay plays an international agent in this flick," Gautham Menon says and adds: "Yohan Adhyayam Ondru will deal with one of the assignments he does in a foreign country. It will chronicle two months of the protagonist's life."

On what made him to join hands with the Ilayathalapathy Vijay, Gautham Menon says, "We both wanted to work together for a long time, but things didn't take shape. This time we were sure not to miss the opportunity and made an announcement on Yohan."

Yohan – Adhyayam Ondru is set in New York and will move on to different countries with each sequel, elaborated Gautham. This indicates that Vijay may be the next James Bond of the Tamil film industry. The film will commence during the mid 2012, confirmed Gautham.

Suriya's 5 different getups in Maatran

According to Director K V Anand, Surya will be seen in 5 different getups for this movie and he also clarified that it is just the getups. Surya has reportedly worked out for 8 packs for this movie. K V Anand has assured that Maatran’s climax will be one of the finest climaxes that tamil cinema would ever see.Maatran is an action thriller that is expected to hit the screens this summer.Looks like Surya fans will have a visual treat this summer.

Additional prints for Velayudham

In spite of other big releases, producer Aascar Ravichandran managed to get bigger and more screens across Tamil Nadu and other areas for his Diwali release ‘Velayutham’. Released on October 25, the film has lived up to the expectations of not just Vijay fans, but has attracted the family audiences.

Well, it’s worth mentioning that Kerala audiences have welcomed even his films like ‘Sura’ and ‘Velayutham’ has become a huge hit over there.

Ilayathalapathy Vijay has thanked his fans for extending their support and making the film successful.

RA.ONE MOVIE-AN OVERVIEW

Ra One is easily the biggest movie of the year and thanks to the tremendous and well thought off marketing push by Red Chillies and Eros International, it has turned into an event film. Shahrukh's extremely high budgeted movie has launched a social game, a PS3 game, came out with graphic novels, merchandises, innumerable marketing tie ups, youtube tie up and the movie is going to be released in India in 3 languages simultaneously with more than 4000 prints all over the world. Can it get bigger than this? Well yes.  The King of Bollywood - Shahrukh made the movie even bigger by pulling in Amitabh to do the narration and then did the impossible - he brought in Superstar Rajinikanth to act in a small scene. Well should we say more? The tickets vanished from the ticket counters in minutes and today is the judgement day. Can Ra.One mesmerize you? Can Ra One change the game?  Can Ra.One take Indian film to the international level, something that Endhiran promised, but failed to do? The answer to all these questions is just around the corner ... And as the theatre starts getting dark and the screen in front brightens we expect nothing short of magic on screen.

And Magic it was. Ra.One shows reflections of several movies but it is mainly inspired by Terminator 2- Judgement Day. It has also taken few pointers from Iron Man(The core design), Astro Boy(the blue core red core), Endhiran(few shots) etc. And still, the film stands on its own merits which is the biggest plus for the movie and the director Anubhav Sinha.

Sekar Subramanium, a genius game developer's desperate attempt to impress his son leads him to create a game where the villain Ra.One is more powerful than the hero. At the same time, his company is working on a program to remove the wall that separates the virtual world from the real. Ra.One utilizes this program to come to life and all hell breaks loose!

He wants to kill the only person who has beaten him in the game. Who is this one man? Is it Shahrukh? Can Shahrukh vanquish the super villain? To know the answer you will have to wait for at least a week to see it in the theatres, if you haven't booked your tickets already.

The director did not have an impressive track record even though he has given 2 hits. But even those have got mainly average to bad reviews. After his last debacle ’Cash’ no one expected him to come out with a project of such magnitude, especially with Shahrukh Khan. But this time around, he has completely impressed with his direction. The movie is aimed at children and young adults while ensuring that even the elders can enjoy. So you will have to expect some kiddish scenes too.

The movie has no problem with the pacing as it is consistently fast. The Climax however could have been more impressive. The characterization of Ra.One could have been made more evil and terrorizing to heighten the tension and make the film gripping. The mystery as to what he would do next could have kept the audience at the edge of their seats. Ra.one’s ability to control human brain seemed too far fetched and could have been avoided.

Shahrukh does struggle with his Tamil, but is exceptional as Sekar and brilliant as G-One. His performance as a human and a virtual superhuman proves his prowess as an actor. Kareena has evolved wonderfully as an actor. She sizzles on screen especially in the world famous ‘Chhamak Chhallo’ track. She looks beautiful and delivers her role with élan showing how competent an actor she is. Armaan Verma is a delight to watch as Sekar’s kid. Arjun Rampal enters the scene in the second half and plays a menacing Ra.One quite well. The special appearances by Sanjay dutt and Priyanka Chopra are ok. The much talked about Chitti's (Rajnikant in Endhiran) appearance could have been much much better. However, Rajni’s appearance on screen received screams and cheering which reached maddening levels. The rest of the cast have little to do and they do impress.

Technically, Ra.One is by far India’s biggest and most expensive by the look of it. Cinematography by V. Manigandan is a feast to the eyes and the action swquences alone are shot by the legendry - Nicolo Pecorrini which has come out brilliantly. The animation and graphics compare to the best of Hollywood. The film actually leaves you wondering as to what is graphics and what is real. While it is good in the first half, the graphics is taken to an all new level in the second half. This film has clearly set a very high bar for computer graphics in Indian film Industry. The action sequences are impeccable. Whether it is the car chase sequence, G-One's introduction, Train sequence or the climax, the execution is of international level.  Sabu Cyril's art direction should be lauded as the ace art director makes every single set picture perfect. Which is real? Which is a set? Which is graphics? You never know. Did you think the train involved in the pre-climax action scene was a real train? Well, think again.  Music has already received rave reviews especially with 'Dil dara', Akon’s 'criminal' and 'chamak chalo' have caught on like wild fire. The picturisation elevates the song experience.

Overall it is s a paisa vasool. Take your kids and family for this event film and become a kid and enjoy the fun. Technically the movie does touch international standards but doesnt boast of an exceptional or unique storyline to impress international junta but its a Indian film which every Indian should be proud off. 7AUM ARIVU MOVIE-AN OVERVIEW

The big Diwali bonanza is here in theatres. The team that gave us the unforgettable Ghajini is back with 7 Aum Arivu. A.R.Murugadoss, Suriya and Harris Jeyaraj have teamed up and the expectations have hit an all time high for a Suriya starrer, what with the pre-release publicity and hit music. So, what is 7 Aum Arivu all about?

Well, everyone knows the answer to that, at least partially. Yes, anyone who follows Tamil cinema would have searched up the name Bodhidharman at least once on the internet over the past month. The team of 7 Aum Arivu digs into history to introduce us to this iconic (in China) Pallava prince who is claimed to be the founder or one of the first masters of Shaolin Kung Fu. The film takes off from the 5th century Pallava kingdom as the prince Bodhidharma, acclaimed for his proficiency in all arts, crafts, armoury and medicine, leaves for China. We are told about how he became a legend in China, spreading his immense knowledge to help them out of many a crisis.

But, the main plot brings us to present day Chennai. A young scientist looking to do some ground breaking research realizes that her work might be getting in the way of someone else’s plan and an unsuspecting simpleton who is a circus artiste by profession also unwittingly becomes part of this. And then, there is a deadly agent who has motives that are much bigger than just science or research. Behind all this is a huge conspiracy. What is the conspiracy and why is a scientist being hounded and what does a simple circus artiste have to do with all of this? Watch 7 Aum Arivu to find out.

The first few minutes of 7 Aum Arivu are magnificent in every sense of word. Be it the  majesty of the Pallava kingdom, the authenticity of a period that dates 1600 years back or the aristocracy of Suriya as the Pallava prince, every frame holds all your attention. So, does the brief but powerful sequence in China. The reason behind Bodhidharma becoming an iconic figure for all the Chinese is effectively shown. Of course, we can see that the director is burdened by a very large account of Bodhidharma’s life (almost something of epic proportions) which have to be summed up in a 20 minute capsule. Therefore, he resorts to generous doses of voice overs which give a kind of semi-documentary effect to that particular portion. That, however, does not prevent the initial 20 minutes of the film from arresting your attention.

Cut to the present and that is where 7 Aum Arivu starts to show the first signs of tiredness. For a film that began with so much power and majesty, the script wears down the effect and makes it another entertainer with a couple of poorly placed songs and a romance track that seems to have little substance in it. You could get restless as you search for the central plot which, you are told at the beginning, is about some international conspiracy. Just when you believe that the plot is taking centre stage, there comes another song, further letting down the tempo of the first half. It is only at the fag end of a laborious 100 minutes that you are convinced that the central plot has finally arrived. You would think that the second half had to be a full throttle journey. That’s what the director has wanted, yes. But, here, Murugadoss hasn’t been able to pull it off with the success he is usually known for. Things do get interesting as more details about the conspiracy are revealed. The initial portions promise a race to the climax. Shortening the fight sequences could have helped the cause. Though the machinations of the conspiracy and the moves to counter it are intelligent, some aspects rob the entire script from being completely credible. One of these is the amount of powers that the lead antagonist is shown to possess; it borders on the realm of the unbelievable and when he exercises them constantly, scene after scene, it becomes a test of the patience of the viewer. Also, the director has taken generous scientific liberties in constructing his script. Nothing wrong with that, science fiction is a welcome addition to Indian cinema. But, once a scientific track is adopted, it must be seen through to the end. Instead, the script abandons the scientific credibility towards the fag end to give way to a commercial climax action sequence.

But, the film is not all about these flaws. There are strong bright spots which tilts the balance. With an impeccable body language as the stately prince and the ascetic monk, Suriya has turned in a committed and spirited performance yet again. He sure has put in a lot of hard work to get those Kung Fu moves right. Shruthi Haasan may not impress phenomenally with her Tamil debut, but she sure has acting in here genes! And, coincidentally, the film also deals with how abilities are carried forth through generations by genes. Johnny Tri Nguyen looks every bit the terminator, cold and lethal. Murugadoss has raised some very relevant messages through his movie. Some are spelt out clearly at various points in the film and the others are implied. These messages are sure ‘take homes’ for everyone. Also, the research he has undertaken to bring to light a person called Bodhidharma is truly praiseworthy; he has resurrected a piece of history.

7 Aum Arivu has some very strong technical aspects. The cinematography remains top notch throughout, you can see that every frame was carefully constructed, especially in the initial 20 minutes or so. Same can be said about the art too. The visual effects also are a treat to watch, except for a few instances in a fight sequence right in the heart of the city. Also congrats to the team for capturing so many shots in different spots of the city with originality. Harris Jeyaraj’s tunes have already delighted you, but do not expect the same in the movie as the songs have been placed at very unfortunate points in the script. Finally, the editing of the film could and should have been crisper; at a duration of above 3 hours, 7 Aum Arivu is a long drawn affair.

7 Aum Arivu which starts of majestically with support of a superior technical crew would have reigned supremacy, only if had not dwelled too much on insignificant romance, not pushing in 2-3 songs too many and leaving the entire central plot for the second half.

Verdict: Technical finesse catering to commercial compulsions.

VELAYUDHAM MOVIE-AN OVERVIEW

Vijay is back to what he does best; mass entertainers, and what better time to unveil a mass entertainer than Diwali. With the music already a rage, the excitement was palpable as fans headed in droves to theatres on the festival of lights.

Velayudham is seen in many ways as a comeback to triumphant ways for Vijay. Yes, Kaavalan was a respite, but it is Velayudham that will more or less decide whether the tried and tested formula that have been followed for Vijay starrers for almost a decade can still hold the audience.

Lets make things clear first, Velayudham holds no surprises in the premise or the central conflict. It is not only something that is seen in a large percentage of commercial entertainers, it is also along lines that are very similar to quite a few earlier Vijay films. But, Vijay films have always been about his presence making things much more exciting than they appear to be in the script.

Velayudham deals with ‘one man saving the society from evil forces’ premise. Yes, we have seen it many times before. Here, the story is about how and why the man rises, how Velu becomes Velayudham. Once he has risen there is no looking back as he hunts down one bad man after the other, but that also earns him enemies who are nothing short of bloodsucking vampires. How does that affect his personal life and how he puts an end to what he began?

As you might guess, the seat of action is Chennai, cinema’s chosen city to portray all corrupt people in Tamil Nadu and the messiah is one who arrives from the village knowing nothing about the notoriety of the big bad city. Of course, he soon finds out and decides that it is better to react than be subdued. And, there is a generous dose of brother-sister sentiment thrown in.

Déjà vu anyone! Well, don’t mind that because Raja has woven a script that makes you forget all this and concentrate only on the screen. The first half is really a joyride, especially for Vijay fans as he is introduced as the fun loving, mischievous young man who will  go to any lengths to make his sister (Saranya Mohan) happy. Vijay is an absolute livewire, be it in the electric dance sequences or the enjoyable comic exchanges, first involving Parotta Suri and M.S.Bhaskar and later with the extremely effective Santhanam. Of course, the director has not failed to keep pushing the central plot ahead steadily to leave the interval intriguingly poised. The second half arrives with more of action than anything else. Yes, there is place for a bit of romance and also some cleverly placed comedy sequences late into the half, but on the whole action does dominate. Again, as we have seen repeatedly with commercial films, it is the overdose of the action element, especially projecting the hero as an unassailable superhuman that makes viewing a bit difficult. Velayudham too falls prey to the same errors, though not to the irrecoverable extent that many other movies have fallen. Raja intersperses high octane action with a couple of well placed songs (Molachu Moonu and Rathathin Ratham) and a very sentimental pre-climax portion to keep the audience from feeling action weary. But, the dominant feeling as the end credits start to roll is that a racy and intelligent climax (not that the one now is non-inttelligent) instead of the hero’s mass appeal and a preachy message would have made the movie much better.

Raja has done a fine job of mixing all the elements that go towards making a mass hero film, though he has lost the balance a bit in the last hour. His adeptness at placing comedy, romance, sentiment and the mandatory 5 songs into a script that has an alter-ego(istic) superhero should be commended. Nothing looks out of place, as we enjoy Santhanam’s wisecracks, Vijay’s dances and the brother-sister sequences. It is a while since we have seen Vijay excel in an emotionally heavy scene, Raja gets it out of the actor, in Velayudham. Also, placing 5 songs in a movie with none of them sticking out like a sore thumb is quite an achievement; though we should say that Vijay’s presence is a major factor in ensuring this.

Everyone in front of the camera has done a fine job. Vijay is sprightly, energetic and every bit the way we love to see him. He has experimented a bit with his look in the songs and they have come out well. Hansika is there in many scenes, but for most parts is a silent spectator, being called upon once in a while, mostly for glamour. She does not look out of place as a village girl, but the makers’ claim that she would remind  us of Khushboo is an overstatement. Genelia gets quite a significant part and looks convincing. A laugh is guaranteed every time Santhanam is on screen. Saranya Mohan too deserves a round of applause for being good enough to make the audience feel the depth of the siblings’ bond.

During most of the talkie portions, the camera strictly adheres to the requirements. Some well shot scenes within a train are worth mentioning. But, it is in the songs that the lens turns on the magic. At least a couple of them are visual treats. The capture of landscape for Molachu Moonu is delectable. Action too has been designed well. Though the movie is of the superhero type, the fights have not been taken to those levels; keeping them down to plausible levels (by commercial cinema standards). Dialogues too deliver the occasional punch and there is one particular reference to the rather benign ways of India.

Velayudham is a regular commercial entertainer which shows one man rising for the masses to right the wrongs in society. Yes, we have seen this kind of movie many times. But, a deftly written script keeps us engaged on screen for most parts until Raja gives into the temptations of adding extra mass appeal to a film that is already built around it. There are many scenes that instantly remind us of films seen earlier, but Viijay’s presence makes up for these glitches. There are also a few instances where the dialogues have political overtones (or are we imagining things, given the nature of the season). If the director had steered clear of these elements and concentrated on building a solid last hour which did not rely too heavily on the leading man’s charisma to carry it off, Velayudham would have been an even better end product.

Verdict: Regular mass entertainer spiced up by Vijay.

Gautham Menon speaks about Vijay’s Yohan : Athiyayam Ondru

Gautham Menon is currently busy with the direction of his trilingual venture Nee Thanae En Ponvasantham with Jeeva and Samantha in the leads in the Tamil Version.
The film will have Nani and Aditya Roy Kapoor in the Telugu and Hindi versions respectively while Samantha is the heroine in all versions.

Next to this, Gautham is planning to begin the shoot of his next film with Ilayathalapathy Vijay in the lead. Titled as Yohan Athiyayam Ondru, Vijay will be seen as international agent in the film. The film will be produced under Gautham Menon’s Photon Kathaas Productions.

Speaking about the film, Gautham Menon said, “Vijay and I were planning to team up from long time and finally it worked now. It’s an international film with an international theme. Vijay dons the role of international agent.”

Rahman is scoring the tunes for the film.

Has a thought provoking message, but an "average treatment"

INTRODUCTION:
7 Aum Arivu is a sci-fi thriller in which Suriya plays a double role: a circus artist and Buddhist monk. Interestingly, Shruti Haasan will play the role of Subha Srinivasan, a scientist. The story is said to revolve around a time machine brought to India by a scientist (Shruti Haasan). The film is also being dubbed in Hindi and Telugu. Suriya will sport the look of a Buddhist monk for only 20 minutes in the film. He will appear as a Tamil prince from Kancheepuram who travels to China and becomes a well-respected monk there. Director Murugadoss has done a lot of research on the role and sources who have seen the raw version of the film are amazed with Suriya's performance.

Review:
Director A.R. Murugadoss has been boasting of the fact that the film will make every Tamilian proud and it gradually raised everyone’s expectations upon the film. "SUNPICTURES" brings you the first exclusive movie review of the much awaited movie 7 AUM ARIVU.

STORY OF 7TH SENSE:
Set in backdrops of 1600 years ago, the film takes us straight to the history of Boddhidharman (Suriya), a legend from Kanchipuram, who spread the philosophy of Zen, became the guru of ‘Shaolin Temple’, a medical scientist and commenced the art of martial arts in China. What happens is that such a great history is hidden that in turn trivialized so many arts that took birth from Boddhidharman. Cut to present generation, a group of scientists including Subha (Shruthi Haasan) are into the project of recreating ‘Boddhidharman’ by the technology of ‘RECOMBINANT DNA TECHNOLOGY’ that is a method that includes the combination of DNAs from the lineage of warriors and versatile artist. Well, a circus artist Aravind (again played by Suriya), from the lineage of Boddhidharman becomes the source of evoking the legend. But soon we have an agent from China Dong Lee (Johny Tri Nguyen) arriving to start ‘Operation Red’ that will become a major disaster to India.

Everyone here becomes puzzled about ‘Operation Red’, but they’re sure it’s gonna be a terrible disaster for everyone. But much before they would find what it is all about, the antagonist has already successfully completed ‘Operation Red’

Will the young team able to break down the operation or succumb to the culmination?

PLUS OF THE MOVIE:
To start off with the basic concept of 7 Aum Arivu, it’s a very well known concept that every individual on this globe possesses the traits of his ancestors and there is nothing new about it.
But what makes the film so special and quite unique is our hero ‘Boddhidharman’. The factual reports about him exhibited during the opening sequences of the film are colossal.

MINUS OF THE MOVIE:
But what doesn’t interest the audiences is the screenplay that becomes dull at places and almost all the proceeding become predictable. To be precise, first half of the film has a moderate tempo and the conflict begins only during post-intermission.

We bring you some sequences from the film that deserves special appreciation…

1. The point where Johny tries to hypnotize Suriya and fails.
2. The dialogue pertaining to the death of a Tamil Liberation Leader and his culmination due to betrayal.
3. The action sequences on the highway road, where the entire public crowd starts attacking Suriya and Shruthi Haasan.

Suriya has done a tremendous hard work over his physique and his action sequences are very much perfect. But it’s Johny Tri Nguyen stealing the show with his marvelous stunts. In fact, the foreign actor wins applause with his introduction scene. Shruthi Haasan looks little nervous during most of the sequences, but delivers an impressive spell in songs, especially in ‘Yella Lama’, which carries a amazing cinematography. The onscreen chemistry between Suriya and Shruthi Haasan is completely missing.

Most of the songs are nowhere closer to the film 7aum Arivu. A.R. Murugadoss has purposely added the songs to add up length. Harris Jayaraj is losing his graph over the background score in his past few films and this one doesn’t become an exception. Most of the sequences have loud and noisy background score. Anthony’s editing is crisp, especially during the action sequences…
The initial sequences shot across Indo-Chinese regions are astounding – courtesy to Ravi K Chandran.

Except the fact that A.R. Murugadoss has attempted to upgrade the status of Tamilians, there is nothing special in screenplay and overall it’s an average show.
